XitNotes Frequently Asked Questions

I don't have Lotus Notes can I still run XitNotes?

No, there is no software available anywhere that will read the proprietary Lotus Notes database (NSF file) format without the Lotus Notes client software (PC based version of Lotus Notes) installed.

Lotus Notes PC software must be installed to use any applications that read or write to or from Lotus Notes databases (NSF files).

However you may be able download a fully functioning copy of Lotus Notes from IBM for evaluation purposes. You can also purchase Lotus Notes from IBM.

If you do a Google search for "Lotus Notes download" the first non sponsored link points to a trial download (please note this may change in the future)

I have 1 PC with Lotus Notes at work and one with Outlook at home can I still run XitNotes?

No you must have both Lotus Notes and Outlook setup on the PC and set up correctly before you may run XitNotes. Please click here for how to get Lotus Notes loaded on the PC with Outlook.

Export seems to hang right after XitNotes starts. What is the problem?

If the Export Now button is grayed out then it is midway through an export and the program is busy. When you open any Lotus Notes database the first time on a particular PC with the Lotus Notes client software loaded (especially if it is a different version accessing a local database) LOTUS NOTES may do a consistency check on your database which could potentially take a long time. It is not the XitNotes application but Lotus Notes checking the database before allowing XitNotes to access to it. It could also be a corruption issue or other issue but that is less likely. A consistency check is most likely the issue however.
